Just trying to keep up with AWS re:Invent ...
By ARCHITECHT • Issue #173 • View online
I promise I’ll have something intelligent to say about Amazon Web Services later this week (in addition to what I wrote yesterday) after I’ve had time to digest all the news (and stop driving to the strip for meetings), but in the meantime please enjoy this list of announcements the company made today at its re:Invent conference – from new bare metal instances to a certification program for machine learning partners. All in all, we’re looking at more than a dozen announcements in the past two days, and we haven’t even hit the real news which will no doubt be rolled out over two days worth of keynotes.
Also, there’s a trifecta of related posts in the big data section below about Cloudera’s new cloud-based data warehousing services. They’re worth checking out if, like me, you’ve been following that market for years and we’re wondering where it’s headed (the answer is to the cloud and toward products over support). I also think the role of well-capitalized ISVs targeting big-money workloads is an underappreciated storyline in discussions about how the cloud market will play out and where cloud providers will (or will not) be able to extract maximum revenue.
As promised, here’s all that AWS news and a little bit of press coverage:
